Walking Barefoot in Dewy Grass

Sunday Ritual: Walking Barefoot in Dewy Grass

Walking barefoot in the dewy grass is a simple yet nourishing practice. It helps to ground you, center you, clear your mind and purify negativities. It’s easy to do and you don’t need any special equipment – just your feet and dewy grass. Morning dew is especially beneficial for this practice but if you find yourself in need of a little purification in the mid-afternoon, simply water the grass with a hose and the results will be the same.

This is one of the oldest and most natural treatments you can find. The treatment was traditionally used to strengthen immunity, stimulate intestinal functions, act as a counterirritant for the chest and throat and to relieve headaches. The negative ions in the water work to clear your meridian channels while the bare feet on the ground reconnect you to mother earth. This is an uplifting practice that regenerates your whole being and can be done as often as you’d like.

How to:

Simply go outside your front door or to a nearby park. Preferably in the morning when the grass is still wet from the night air. Remove your shoes and slowly step onto the wet grass. Walk slowly and with intention. Keep your concentration on your feet connecting to the earth, feel the dampness of the grass on the bottoms of your feet and between your toes. Continue to walk in a contemplative manner. If your mind wanders, bring it back. Breathe….take deep long inhales and release with slow exhales. Hold the intention of “releasing” (any stress, sadness, worries, negativities) into the damp earth. Be present. Take in the sounds of nature. Feel the sun on your back, face. etc. Breathe!

Continue this barefoot walking for 15-30 minutes (even 5 minutes is beneficial if this is all you have.)

Take time to Notice: take time to notice how refreshed and invigorated you feel. Let this good energy penetrate your entire being and try to hold onto this feeling throughout your day.

Afterward: dry your feet with a towel. if your feet are cold, slip them into a pair of socks until they acclimate to your natural body temperature.

Enjoy the benefits!

Do as often as possible!
